List of the Best DIY Christmas Decorations on a Budget To Make

It’s the most wonderful time of the year…but also the most expensive! Between gifts, travel, and all those holiday parties, it’s easy to go overboard and end up in debt come January. But just because you’re on a budget doesn’t mean your home has to look like it. With a little creativity and some DIY spirit, you can have a festive home that will make your wallet happy. And if you’re looking for more ideas aside from our budget-friendly Christmas decorations, you’ll love our posts about the best upcycled Christmas decors and best Christmas craft gift ideas.

Here are some tips for how to deck your halls on a budget:

Get Creative with Your Tree

One of the biggest expenses during the holidays is buying a Christmas tree. If you don’t want to spend the money this year, get creative and use what you already have! Canvas hangers can be used to create mini trees that can be hung on walls or doors. Or try using an old ladder as a tree stand and DIY garlands over the rungs. Whatever you do, just make sure your “tree” is fireproof!

Make Your Own Ornaments

Personalized Christmas ornaments are always a nice touch, but they can be expensive if you’re buying them from a store. Save yourself some money by making your own! There are tons of tutorials online for how to make everything from simple paper ornaments to more complex ones made out of clay or wood. This is also a great activity to do with kids if you’re looking for something fun and festive to do together.

Get Creative with Lights

Christmas lights are another essential—but pricey—holiday decoration. If you don’t want to spend money on new lights this year, try repurposing old strings of lights by wrapping them around plants or window frames. You could also use them to line walkways or wrapping tree trunks. If you want something a little different, try making glowing jars by filling mason jars with lights and placing them around your home. The possibilities are endless!

Here are the best budget-friendly Christmas decorations I’ve found:
