Is it just me, or is Thanksgiving really all about the side dishes? I mean, the turkey is great, but I truly live for the sides. There’s just something so comforting about a warm, bubbly dish being passed around the table. Give me a classic Green Bean Casserole or a new cheesy creation, and I am one happy camper. Honestly, the perfect Thanksgiving Casserole is what makes the whole meal feel complete and extra cozy for me.

Since I’m always looking for new ways to “wow” the family (or, let’s be real, just make my own plate amazing), I spent a little too much time gathering up the best, coziest, and most delicious casserole ideas I could find. I wanted to share my list with you! Whether you need something classic or want to try something totally new, I bet you’ll find a winner here. These are perfect for making ahead, which leaves more time for baking other fun things, like my easy Thanksgiving cupcakes!

Classic Green Bean Casserole

You just can’t have Thanksgiving without it, right? This is the one everyone expects. Creamy mushroom sauce, tender green beans, and alllll those crispy fried onions on top. My tip? You can cook this dish ahead of time and keep it refrigerated until ready to heat and serve.

Sweet Potato Casserole with Pecan Crumble

This is basically dessert masquerading as a side dish, and I am 100% here for it. Fluffy, sweet potatoes (I like to add a hint of vanilla) topped with a crunchy, buttery brown sugar and pecan crumble. It’s the perfect sweet balance to the salty turkey and gravy.

Ultimate Baked Mac & Cheese

Okay, this is my personal weakness. Forget the blue box—we’re talking a rich, bubbly sauce made with Gruyère and sharp cheddar, baked until it has that amazing golden-brown crust. The kids go wild for it, and honestly, so do I.

Cheesy Broccoli & Rice Casserole

This is such a throwback, but it’s so good! It’s like the coziest hug in a bowl. Think tender broccoli florets and rice all mixed up in a creamy, cheesy sauce (Velveeta works wonders here, just sayin’!). It’s a total crowd-pleaser.

Butternut Squash Gratin

Want something that looks super fancy but is secretly easy? This is it! Thinly sliced butternut squash layered with cream, a little garlic, cheese (try Parmesan!), and a hint of nutmeg. It bakes up into this gorgeous, tender dish that feels so elegant.

Cornbread & Sausage Stuffing Casserole

Is stuffing a casserole? I say yes! Especially when you bake it in a 9×13 pan. I love using cornbread, adding savory sausage, celery, onions, and lots of sage. It’s the taste of Thanksgiving.

Creamy Scalloped Potatoes

Move over, mashed! Sometimes you just need those delicate, creamy layers. Thinly sliced potatoes baked in a garlic-infused cream sauce until they are fork-tender and bubbly. So, so decadent.

Pineapple Casserole

Don’t knock it ’til you try it! This is a quirky Southern classic. It’s a wild-sounding mix of pineapple chunks, cheese, and a buttery Ritz cracker topping. It sounds so weird, but the sweet-and-salty combo is amazing next to ham or turkey.

Cheesy Hashbrown Casserole

This is pure comfort. It’s a mix of frozen hashbrowns, sour cream, cream of chicken soup, and lots of cheese, topped with crushed cornflakes for a buttery crunch. It’s always the first dish to disappear.

French Onion Green Bean Casserole

This is a fun spin on the classic. Instead of fried onions, you use caramelized onions and mushroom soup to create a rich, French-onion-soup-inspired base. Top it with crispy onions and melty Gruyère cheese. Yum!

Baked Creamed Corn Pudding

This is just like your grandma’s canned creamed corn. This is a rich, savory-sweet corn pudding that’s almost like a soufflé. It’s light, fluffy, and bakes up golden brown. It’s the perfect side for soaking up extra gravy.

Loaded Mashed Potato Casserole

Why just have mashed potatoes when you can have loaded mashed potatoes? Make your favorite potatoes, then mix in sour cream, bacon bits, chives, and cheddar cheese. Bake it until it’s hot and bubbly. You can even make this the day before!

Wild Rice & Mushroom Casserole

This one feels so rustic and cozy. It’s a hearty mix of wild rice, sautéed mushrooms, and often some breadcrumbs for crunch, all bound together in a creamy, cashew cheese savory sauce. It’s a wonderful, earthy side dish.

Savory Carrot Soufflé

This is another one that blurs the line between side and dessert. It’s made from cooked, pureed carrots, eggs and butter, so it puffs up like a light, airy soufflé. It’s a beautiful bright orange color on the table.

Cauliflower Gratin with Extra Cheese

Love mac & cheese but want a veggie? This is your answer. Tender cauliflower florets baked in that same rich, creamy cheese sauce as a good gratin. A little nutmeg in the sauce makes it feel extra special.

Creamed Pearl Onion Gratin

Don’t skip the onions! This is one of those super-vintage recipes that 100% deserves a spot on the table. It’s just tender little pearl onions (frozen ones are a total lifesaver here!) baked in a rich, creamy cheesy sauce with a hint of nutmeg. I love to top mine with buttery breadcrumbs and fresh thyme. It’s a simple, elegant side that tastes amazing next to turkey.

Creamed Spinach Casserole

Just like the kind you get at a fancy steakhouse! It’s super-rich, creamy, and packed with flavor from garlic and Parmesan. This is a great make-ahead dish that just needs to be heated through before dinner.

Cheesy Zucchini & Summer Squash Bake

This is a great way to use up those end-of-season veggies. Sliced zucchini and yellow squash layered with a simple tomato sauce (or just cheese sauce!) and topped with breadcrumbs. It’s light, fresh, and delicious.

Cranberry-Apple Crisp

Here’s a sweet one! It’s like a cranberry sauce and an apple crisp had a baby. Tart cranberries and sweet apples baked with a buttery oat or pecan topping. It’s amazing spooned right over a slice of turkey.

Root Vegetable Casserole

A fun alternative to plain mashed potatoes. Boil a mix of sweet potatoes, parsnips, carrots, and turnip, then mash them all together with plenty of butter and cream cheese. Put it in a casserole dish, top with breadcrumbs, and bake until golden.

Savory Cabbage Casserole

This one is surprisingly delicious! Tender cooked cabbage mixed with ground beef and topped with cheddar cheese. It’s an old-fashioned dish that totally deserves a comeback.

Cheesy Corn & Rice Casserole

Another super-easy “dump-and-bake” recipe. Just mix yellow rice, corn (canned or frozen is fine!), cream of chicken soup and cheddar cheese in a dish and bake. It’s creamy, a little zesty, and so, so easy.

Broccoli-Cauliflower Casserole

Can’t decide between broccoli or cauliflower? Use both! This is the ultimate veggie-and-cheese bake. It’s perfect for getting some greens onto the kids’ plates… hidden under all that yummy cheese, of course.

Classic Potato & Onion Pierogi Casserole

Source: Momsdish

These Classic Pierogi are little pockets of heaven stuffed with creamy mashed potatoes and tangy cheddar cheese. Boiled, then pan-fried to golden perfection, they’re crispy outside, pillowy inside, and pure comfort food magic. Serve them with caramelized onions or bacon — you’ll never stop at just one!
