Achieving perfectly straight hair is by no means an easy feat. However, by incorporating the right tools and styling products, plus a bit of practice, you can master a salon quality blow-dry hair care technique that will keep your strands smooth and straight throughout the day.
So how exactly to get your strands looking sleek and straight? Here are some healthy ways you can untwist your curly curls, without damaging them.
Start with your shower routine

Every good beauty routine needs a strong foundation. First wash your hair using a smoothing creamy shampoo, that is particularly good for coarse or frizzy hair and follow with an anti-frizz smoothing conditioner to leave the hair sleek and combable.
Consider using a repairing hair mask that provides instant shine, deep nourishment and repair. This will lock as much moisture as possible to ensure elasticity. Rinse hair with lukewarm water to help the cuticles to remain flat and prevent frizz.
Towel dry your hair
After your shower, instead of a cotton towel, use a microfiber cloth. The absorbing property of the microfiber cloth will eliminate the friction that causes frizz that often comes from using regular cotton towels.
Apply a leave-in conditioner
If your hair is still on the dry side, consider applying a couple of fritzzes from a leave-in conditioner that has hydrating hair milk, that not only controls frizz, but leaves your hair soft, shiny and straight.
For additional protection, you may want to try a hair smoother to hydrate your hair without weighing it down and leave your strands soft and easy to comb.
A heat-protectant product is a must for styling
For protecting all types of hair from stress caused by a blow-dryer, consider using a reliable heat protectant spray to effectively safeguard your hair from heat temperatures upto 230 degrees C.
By shielding your hair against potential hair damage from heat styling, will help to further condition the strands and help them recover from the heat application.
Divide your hair into sections
The actual styling starts by carefully sectioning your hair by using styling clips before you begin blow-drying your hair.
Start with the bottom layer of the hair first in order to avoid re-straightening or making use of heat tools on the parts of the strands that you may have already worked upon.
Flat iron or blow dry?
There are two reliable and efficient methods of straightening your hair-either blow dry it smooth or use a flat iron. While a blow dryer is the right choice if you are looking to impart a more voluminous look, a flat iron is often more effective in tackling more curly and stubborn hair.
Having said that, both methods are equally effective and you can attempt a blow dry tutorial first and if it doesn’t work, you can move on to the flat iron straightener. However, remember to adopt the right steps and techniques when using either of them.
Finally apply the finishing touches
Once you are satisfied that your strands are straight as an arrow, or almost, you need to apply the finishing touches by incorporating the right products to help retain the oil and moisture effectively.
For extra frizz control and an added boost to nourishment and shine, consider a multi-functional hair oil that provides shine and detangles your hair at the same time. Consider a lighter finishing oil for fine hair and a medium hold spray if you are worried about flyways.
Apply the oil on your palm and gently rub it into the surface of your hair, working from the top and down to the ends to get shiny locks and perfectly straight strands. Avoid getting the oil on your scalp as it may increase unnecessary oiliness.
